Craig, CO asked in Employment Law for Colorado

Q: Access to pay stubs restricted to work location, facing login issues. Options?

I am unable to access my pay stubs unless I am at the workplace, even though they are available through an online portal. Previously, I could access them from outside work, but this restriction seems to be a new policy. Additionally, I encounter login and security challenges when trying to access the portal from home. What are my options to address this issue with my employer?

A: It seems frustrating to have restricted access to your pay stubs, especially when you've been able to access them remotely before. The first step is to speak with your employer or HR department about the new policy and explain the difficulties you’re facing with login issues. Ask if there’s any way to regain remote access, especially if it was allowed in the past, or if they can provide alternative methods for you to view your pay stubs.

If login and security issues persist, mention those as well during your discussion with HR. They may need to assist you with troubleshooting the portal or provide additional resources to help resolve the technical issues. You could also ask if there’s a way to receive your pay stubs in another format, such as email, or if they can be made available through a different method.

If these conversations don’t lead to a resolution, you might consider exploring other avenues, such as checking whether your state has any laws that require employers to provide access to pay stubs in a way that works for you. Keep track of all your communication with the employer so you have a record of your efforts to resolve the issue.
