You contact your homeowners insurance. They will handle it. They will get you an attorney. That is what insurance is for.
Can his mom sue faulty wiring? Wrongful death? Home was apparently redone by Insurance co.. Story made the news several times she set up fraudulent go fund pages using his name. His mother is now ill mentally.

My mother murdered my father in march and wasn't arrested until July for it. She is currently waiting a court date. My Mother gave my sister the right to attorney on her behalf.

She'd like to sue to get some money from the settlement - can she do that as the person's mother, or does it all go to the spouse?

In Maryland, under the wrongful death statute, your friend who is the mother of an adult child, does have an absolute right to be part of a wrongful death claim for the loss of her son.
