Logan, OH asked in Family Law for Ohio

Q: I have been raising my grandson since he was 5 months old, he is 4 now. His mother is threatening to take him away...

I have power of attorney and have had since summer 2012 and she has had minimal contact with him to the point he gets nervous around her. She has documented on Facebook her alcohol and perscription drug abuse and she doesn't have a job, a car, and lives in a very unsafe environment. She is using my grandson as ammunition to bribe me into giving her money, a car, etc...I don't want to keep allowing her to go downhill so I refuse to give her money and meet her demands any longer. I don't want her to take my grandson into an unsafe environment, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

A: You should get an attorney to help you make it clear to her that she will lose all rights to own child if she doesn't straighten up and fly right. We don't just do adversarial stuff. Many of us are involved in helping people understand the situation, the options, and the consequences. Don't let her run you over. The mother is always in a strong position with regard to a child; however, if her life makes her a danger to the child, she is not invincible.
