Seneca, SC asked in Personal Injury, Libel & Slander, Consumer Law and Real Estate Law for South Carolina

Q: ZILLOW Inc is publishing false, erroneous and misleading info - and they refuse to correct it- what can be done??

Have documented responses from ZILLOW- they acknowledge deficiencies in their "systems" but refuse to take corrective action. WILDLY varying "Zestimates" in similar, side by side properties - and NO coherent response?? ZILLOW penalizes diligent homeowners who properly "used" defaulted properties and lowered their property taxes- NOW ZILLOW uses this "lower" tax payment AGAINST the homeowner and "rewards" the lazy, "tax overpaying" owner with higher "valuations" in their algorithm- this can't be allowed! Their disclaimer is that the Zestimate is just a starting point- I have been called by Realtors and asked why ZILLOW "Zestimate" is so low on my property... the Realtors seem to accept the Zillow info as gospel....and they should NOT!! Many articles nationwide about complaints re: Zillow....Have numerous emails saved to demonstrate their callous disregard of facts and refusal to correct damaging published info.

A: I don't see it--it's an estimate. They can use whatever metrics they want. If you feel your property is worth more then the agent selling it for you can promote it appropriately. They aren't required to change just because you took advantage of the tax system to challenge the valuation and it got a reduced valuation. Put the tax money you saved into boosting it's value.
