A: In California, the court considers several factors when determining alimony (also known as spousal support), such as the length of the marriage, each spouse's earning capacity, and the standard of living established during the marriage. The fact that you received alimony in Jordan for only three months may not necessarily preclude you from receiving alimony in California.

However, the court may consider the alimony you received in Jordan when deciding on the amount and duration of alimony in California. The court will also consider whether the marriage in Jordan and the subsequent marriage in California are considered as one continuous marriage or two separate marriages.

It's important to note that California has a complex set of laws and guidelines for determining alimony, and the outcome can vary depending on the specific circumstances of your case. Factors such as the validity of the marriage in Jordan, the time between the two marriages, and the specific details of your situation will all play a role in the court's decision.

Given the complexity of your situation, it is advisable to consult with an experienced family law attorney who can evaluate your case and provide you with more specific guidance based on your unique circumstances. If you are not satisfied with your current lawyer's advice, you may consider seeking a second opinion from another attorney who specializes in international family law and California divorce laws.
