A: The answer depends on the particular defendant and the presence or absence of insurance. If the defendant had insurance, then the insurance company is usually motivated to pay promptly. If the defendant had no insurance then payment naturally depends on the defendant's assets, whether the defendant is "judgment proof" or has assets to collect/garnish. If the defendant has assets, payment by an individual defendant is not generally automatic but requires a plaintiff to do post-judgment discovery and collection work.
