Q: Forwarding a question for a family member
1)our father was a us citizen by birth but was not aware of it until after my birth in 1981, so he was not able to fulfill the physical presence needed to transfer citizenship but our grandmother who was a us citizen has met the physical presence required since the Philippines was an outlying possession of the United States from 1899 until its independence on July 4, 1946.
(ask them if it's possible to claim citizenship through grandparents.)
2)asked them regarding double derivative transmission of citizenship.
Ask them if i have automatic citizenship claim base on that our father is us citizen, our grandparents was a us citizen and that i went to the u.s in 1989 but was deported in 2001.
A:
Unfortunately your grandmother can not help you get citizenship, she can apply for your father but since you are from philippines you will have to wait for a few decades for your father to get a green card and then 5 more years to get citizenship. I suggest you contact an immigration attorney in private to discuss if there are any other ways for you to move towards citizenship. All the best.
