Arlington, WA asked in Immigration Law for Washington

Q: What are my options as a permanent resident to obtain a green card for my unmarried son who is 20 years old?

I got married to a citizen and got my green card two years ago. We got married two months after my son's 18th birthday so my wife (she is the citizen) wasn't able to sponsor him as her stepson. We have been trying to find a way to get him here since we don't have a good relationship with my family and he has been living with a friend of mine all this time in Mexico. He has lived with me all his life and his mother is not part of our lives. It seems like we don't have many options considering he is going to be 21 years old next year before I can apply for a citizenship and I have read on internet that he has to be not less than 21yo so I can sponsor him as a citizen without him having to wait on the list for years. Is there any way I can get him here without having to wait many years?

A: You will be able to sponsor your son as a green card holder, you should have applied for his I130 when you got your green card atleast. Talk to an immigration attorney soon to get your process started as mexico has one of the longest wait times. Check the link below to learn more. All the best.
