Asked in Criminal Law for Washington

Q: Can I place a security camera from my front porch facing a shared (public)driveway to log suspicious activity?

I live kitty-corner to an obvious drug house. Apparently the suspicious activity has been going on long before we moved in. We are tired of all the vehicles blocking our neighbors in and all the foot traffic and obvious drug use in the vehicles. The drive way is shared by 3 houses, so basically it is considered a public driveway. This is why we cannot have anyone towed. So I want to find out if I will be able to use anything in my videos(to report it to the police) if I were to capture any illegal activity in this driveway, as long as I am not pointing the camera towards anyone's property line and just focusing on the driveway.

A: As long as you are not audio recording private conversations, it should be fine to video tape public places.
