Findlay, OH asked in Employment Law for Ohio

Q: Is it OK to deny doing an exit interview?

I was the financial controller for a small privately owned factory. The owner, my boss, would often times come to work high. His behavior was erratic and unpredictable. He could be a bully with people. I finally just walked off the job. My nerves and sanity could not take it anymore. Now the owner wants me to go back and have an exit interview with him. I just want to move on and get this past experience out of my life. I do not want to sacrifice anymore of my dignity for this guy.

Am I at legal risk? Especially since I know all this guys financials and some of the illegal stuff that went on.

A: You are not required to do an exit interview from a legal standpoint. If by chance you had an employment contract that said you were required to do one, then you would have a breach of contract. The later is doubtful.
