Q: Can i go to jail for not paying child support if i gave up my rights with dcf. I got a letter today. Need help now.

My kids where taken away when i got a dui with kid in car. They are with my grandma now. I signed my rights away. I live in bradenton fl and they live in Panama City fl and they say i have to be in court or i will have a warrant. I live more than 9 hours away. And the place where it happen was my county manatee. The case was here. And they say i have to go to court more than 8 hours away or i will go to jail. Through dcf i signed in front of a jude my rights away or they where going to take them from me anyways. Can they do this? Really need help.

A: Just because your children were taken away from you by DCF doesn't mean that you don't have the obligation to pay child support. I assume the child support case (contempt motion, apparently) is in Bay County and you are in Manatee Co. See if it is possible to attend by telephone.
