Gaithersburg, MD asked in Contracts, Consumer Law and Lemon Law for Maryland

Q: Am i responsible for anything if i sell a car AS-IS to a private party?

I sold a car that had a rebuilt title in AS-IS condition. I did not know much about the car other than it ran good. The buyer after purchasing took the car to get inspected and found out it has frame damage and won't pass MD state inspection. They want a refund now.

Am i obligated to take the car back since i sold it As-is?

A: If you were able to have it pass state inspection, and if you told him that it had been rebuilt, then you should be in the clear.

However a court may not have much sympathy for you if you didn't tell him about all the damage.
