Q: Can I sue ex for Dr bills

My ex violently beat me,leaving me in hospital with 100k in Dr bills,can I sue him for these expenses.as he is now incarcerated

A: You can certainly sue him, but if he doesn't have the money, won't do you any good. The hospital treated yuou, not him, and you the patient--even if totally innocent--are the one that is responsible for the bills. Suggest you see if there is a crime victims compensation act in Texas. You should have run them through medical assistance or that part health insurance didn't take care of.

MA in some states is retroactive for 3 months or more so if any are in a time frame like that apply for medical assistance --worst they can do is deny you. However I'd also suggest you contact a local womens shelter to get the names of organizations that are concerned about these things and contact those organizations to get their suggestions as you aren't the first person to have these issues. This isn't what you want to hear, but the final option is to declare bankruptcy.
