Q: I am trying to get my mom's death certificate amended.if the jp won't do it what court do I go to?
My mother passed away in 2012.Get death certificate says natural but my step father confessed on his death bed to myself and a few others that he murdered her.I even spoke to the medical examiner in her case and she told me herself to go to the justice of peace and see what he can do.I have affidavits and the people will be more than willing to go before a judge to tell the truth. Her certificate says myocardial infarction but the toxicology report says acute morphine intoxication. He admitted to opening the capsules and dosing her up.She had the equivalent of 21 pills in her system.I spoke with her through out the day on September 27,2012 and I went to her home on September 28,2012 and she was sleeping off and on.She died in September 29,2012.I have voicemails from the days before her death. He said he couldn't let her leave him.She was going to leave him and was packing. He is dead now and it's been 4 years since she left.I just found this out cause he died on Oct 26,2016.Thank you

This case was posted under Domestic Violence but I think you can get a better answer by consulting an attorney that does Wills & Estates work .... probate law.
Another possibility is to consult with the criminal District Attorney's office in your county. They are responsible for prosecuting murder cases and, although there is nobody alive to prosecute, they can might be able to point you in the right direction for who to contact and how to approach it.
A: That truly is a tragic story. I have to ask what you are trying to accomplish by changing the death certificate? Does the cause of death impact any interests in insurance proceeds, devises under a will, etc.?
