Hope Valley, RI asked in Criminal Law and Family Law for Rhode Island

Q: 16 year old boy at party ended up with another girl at party, they messed around, an he got in trouble an charged?

They were both at this party an at the end of the night they end up messing around, he was 16, she was 13. Of course boys around this age aren't asking questions, an she doesn't say anything either. Then he gets charged with this child molestation (2nd degree) for the rest of his life. He is now 37, he can"t have a family, a girl friend with kids, no good job..........I mean he was 16, it's not like he was a 20 year old messing around with a 13 year old girl, they were a few years apart, not only that but they were teenagers, all teenagers do stupid things, especially when it comes to the other sex. I just don"t understand how you could ruin a person's life at such an early age, they treated him as this monster, but in all reality they create it. I know this man extremely well, he is the most wonderful person, with the biggest heart on his sleeve. What can you do about this? Anything?

A: 21 years ago, the court dealt with this issue. At the time, this boy you describe was a minor. Hopefully, the case record was sealed because of his minority. So, the best thing you might do for your friend is to not discuss the case in public.
