Q: If i am 15 and i am turning 16 in four months. Can i still get emancipated in New Jersey?
Me and my grandmother are always having arguments and she wont let me have my own privacy or freedom. I don't even have my own room. I want to be emancipated so i can live my life without mistreatment. I when i was 11years of age my mom left me and so did my dad for a business trip to Maryland or Virginia for a week. And in that week i used my own money to keep food in the house, and i took care of my pets and did my responsibilities at home i also have been going too school.(i was in Paulsboro when i was 11years old. Right now i am 15 living in woodbury). I took care of all my responsibilities for a week. Maybe a little more than a week but hopefully you get the point. I am financially fit to live alone. I can handle myself and get money to pay for my own property. I just can handle with my issue at home. My grandmother is 69 of age and is unstable.
A: You are not capable of being emancipated in NJ. If you could, at barely 16, there is no possible way that you know what you are getting into. Unless you are a "trust fund baby"(which I seriously doubt), you cannot handle the financial responsibilities that you would have. Try to work things out with your grandmother. By the way as a minor, you could not even legally enter into a contract to have an attorney represent you. Good luck.
