Henderson, NV asked in Family Law and Juvenile Law for Ohio

Q: Can a 17yr old male leave his father in ohio n move to neveda with his mother? His father has full custody

His father is very abusive, physically, emotionally and mentally. His father has full custody. We have called police, told counselors and even got cps involved. His father always gets out of it due to him lieing n being manipulative to authorities. I, his mother, live in neveda. I dont have the time away from work or the funds to spend on lawyers to fight him in court. But ive heard from multiple people saying when he turns 17 he can runaway from his father n come to neveda, and as long as he gets a job and stays out of trouble, that his father will have a very hard time getting him back. Is that true? Will i get in trouble for harboring a runaway even though im his mother? Will he get sent bk to ohio? Please let me know what i should do.

A: His father has full custody from the court, and that court order must be followed. There is no rule that lets your son run away at age 17. If you allow him to stay in NV, you and your son could both face legal problems. Talk to an OH attorney in the county where your son lives. Use the Find a Lawyer tab.
