Cincinnati, OH asked in Employment Law and Immigration Law for Ohio

Q: What entrepreneurship options do I have as a current H-1B software developer?

I came to the US after graduation in 2014, and have been working as a software developer for 3 years. During this time I have grown both in technical prowess and personally about knowing my career needs. After working for this time as a full-time employee, I have realized that instead of working for a great US company with a high pay, my interests lie in being an entrepreneur.

The United States is the place where dreams are realized, and I feel convinced of this more every day as I learn about this great nation. I hear stories of self-made men and women every day and it makes me more motivated and inspired as ever.

My dilemma is I feel I am currently bound to my visa sponsor and cannot realize my full potential. Although my job offers me challenges it doesn't push me to my limits as much entrepreneurship would. I believe I have a lot to offer and am ambitious and motivated but feel trapped in my current situation.

EDIT: Indian citizen

A: Entrepreneur visas allowing you to be your own boss in America are not easy to come by and are subject to many restrictions. Depending on which country you are from and how long it would take to get a green card through labor certification, you might try looking for a company that would be willing to sponsor you for a labor certification green card as an employee, so you could get your green card and be free to work in any capacity or career in the U.S. that you wish.
