Barberton, OH asked in Criminal Law and Juvenile Law for Ohio

Q: I'm 17 and my fiance is 14.... Her parents consented at first, but changed their minds because they believe I am 30.

I live in Ohio but my fiance lives in Nebraska. We are currently doing long distance engagement. Her parents forbid her from talking to me and threatened to press charges on me if we continue talking. I love her and refuse to obey her parents, and she agrees with me. She loves me and we are risking everything to be together. She wants to run away so we can be together, and I am at the point of encouragement.... I don't want to lose her and she doesn't want to lose me. We are desperate right now and I can't wait 4 years to be with her, let alone 8 months (when I turn 18). At 18 I was thinking of filing for guardianship over her, but we can't wait 8 months. Is there anyway me and her can be together? I want her to be with me, but her parents refuse to believe I am 17. I don't have my ID yet, and if I contact her dad he will send her to this thing called girls town. I will lose her and we don't know what to do. Help us please....

A: This is not going well and likely to get worse. First, she is way too young to get married. Even with parental consent, most states won't allow a 14 year old to marry. Second, you are teetering on the edge of being charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor or interference with child custody. Third, love can wait a lot longer than 8 months. At this point, the law sees her as a child.
