Atlanta, GA asked in Employment Law and Workers' Compensation for Georgia

Q: Do I have a legal basis to sue if I was fired on my first day at Subway? Is my future resume tarnished by being let go?

I'm 16 and I live in Powder Springs, GA. I was recently hired by Subway and worked there for about 2 hours. I was supposed to work the evening shifts, but after i finished my first day, I got text messages from the man who hired me saying not to come in anymore because a girl, who was moving to Powder Springs, with more experience was coming to replace me. I know being fired looks bad on your resume, being fired on your first day even worse. So what can I do? Can I sue? Complain? What?

Side note: The only employees there was an Indian married couple and my hiring manager was Indian. During the work day, they made me feel very out of place. About 1 hour in, the man kept saying I could go home because it was slow, even when I said I didn't care. I can't explain the feeling, but I didn't feel welcomed.

A: unfortunately, as an employee at will your employer can fire you for any reason. In this context, I would move on.
