Asked in Criminal Law and Domestic Violence for Oklahoma

Q: Why is bail set so high?

My bf got arrested on 8/29 when his father called the police bc they got into a physical altercation. After 2 days of calling the clerk's office for info, they gave me a bond amount of $25,000! I asked what was he being held for? The woman told me it was for a failure to appear and for $300 worth of fines. She said nothing about the incident that landed him in there. No one that I've called for 4 days now has mentioned it. It's solely bc of the failure you appear and failure to pay $300 in fines. Also, the judge failed to realize at the hearing for bail, that he's set time out TWICE over this incident. Why is his bail STILL so much?

A: My best bet is that he owes the court about $2500 in fines and costs. SOME Judges set bail on costs cases at 10 times the amount owed. Fees from a bail bondsman for a $25000 bond would be 1/10th of the

bond, or $25,000.

Get it? He might as well payoff fines, rather than "waste" money on bond, then still owe the costs.
