Los Angeles, CA asked in Civil Litigation, Contracts, Mergers & Acquisitions and Landlord - Tenant for California

Q: Moving out when lease ends but 14 days short of 30 day notice

Hello- my lease ends on October 21st and two days ago my father in law passed away overseas so me and he wife have to leave the country indefinitely.

Now is there a way I can convince the landlords to give them the notice now and leave before end of October so they have time to find a new tenant? Or is there a way I can avoid paying for the full month of November since I have to put everything in storage and leave ASAP? We are a bit stressed about this and don’t want to loose our security deposit- but want to do the right thing. We don’t have to renew the lease it’s month to month after that but given that today is October 14th and we found out a couple of days ago about the death- is there any type of thing I can say to reach an agreement with my landlord?
