Cashiers, NC asked in Family Law, Child Custody and Child Support for North Carolina

Q: My son's mother has been keeping him away from me, how do I get joint custody without paying child support

I honestly can't afford child support and I don't like the idea of paying my child's mother to see my son. I've tried to give her my support but she blocks my calls and texts. I just wanna see my kid

A: Child support is like taxes - it doesn't matter if you can 'afford' it or not. If you have income, you are going to pay taxes and you are going to pay child support - its just a matter of how hard you wanna make it on yourself. However, child support is separate from visitation. If you want visitation, you may have to force her to give it to you much in the same way it appears she is going to have to force you to pay child support. It would be best for both of you to simply do right and cooperate with each other.
