Westmont, IL asked in Landlord - Tenant and Consumer Law for Illinois

Q: Hello my hotel room was broken into both nights we were there at the crown plaza in New Orleans. They want to settle?!?

They took things from both of my rooms on both nights. We filed incident reports each time and the security employment team kept pushing it off and trying to hid it. It was really sketchy and everytime I️ spoke to someone about each incident they have not heard of the previous incidents...which is very unheard of from a team and mangamnet stand point. They sent it off to investigation finally a week after the incidents and now the insurance company is trying to make me settle by signing a paper. I️ wanted make sure there was nothing else I️ can do before I sign that paper. It seems as if the security team was involved in the theft process as they would have not paid for it if it was an outsider. I️ feel like they want me to sign the form and just forget about it. Should I️ seek more legal action?

A: I would recommend consulting with an attorney prior to signing any release from the hotel. A knowledgeable attorney can review the facts surrounding this situation, can review the release, and can also advise you as to your options moving forward.
