Q: Can my boss ask for validation from a family member about whether or not I have a chronic illness?

Can my boss ask for validation from a family member about whether or not I have a chronic illness? I work at a company that a cousin of mine works at as well, although she works in a different department. I had previously informed my employer that I have a chronic illness (lupus) and yesterday I had to call into work because I was in the hospital and I provided a doctor’s note and hospital record showing that I was in fact there. My employer proceeded to bring my cousin into a one-on-one with her basically asking for validation on whether I even had an illness. What bothers me most is that I have kept my Lupus private and haven’t divulged this information to majority of my family yet. Is this legal for her to do? I feel that it was a violation of my privacy and want to resign because of it, or could I be overreacting?
