Yuma, CO asked in Family Law and Child Support for Illinois

Q: How do I get my back owed child be support when child support enforcement isn't doing anything and won't help me?

I have a case in IL involving my now 18 year old daughter. Her biological father is over $48,000 behind and hasn't paid anything since 1/3/2017. I have called child support enforcement and all they will tell me is they sent him a letter because they have no employer on file. I informed them he is self employed now. Can you please help me? Thank you.

A: You ought to hire a lawyer to file a Petition for Adjudication of Civil Contempt. Bring a copy of the most recent court orders involving child support to your first appointment, together with payment records of what you've received. If you don't have the payment records your attorney can help you get them. If the father is found in contempt the judge will order that the father pays the fees of your attorney and his or her expenses incurred in pursuing the matter.
