Q: My boyfriend is 20 and I'm 16 I turn 17 in May and he turns 21 in March what can we do to not get him in trouble?
My parents are okay with us dating do we need proof that my parents are okay with this do they need to fill out paperwork?
A: Relax young lady. Your situation is not dire at all. First, if you are not having sex there is no problem. If you are, there is. The age of consent in Texas is 17, so you cannot "legally" have sex with your boyfriend until your 17th birthday. Whether a 17 year old girl should have sex with a 21 year old young man is another question not connected to the law in any way. There is nothing in Texas law that prohibits a 20 year old, or a 21 year old, from dating a 16 year old. Of course, whether that relationship is a healthy one depends on the people involved. The "problem" only comes if and when these two begin having sex. And no, you do not have to fill out paperwork. If your relationship is only dating go ahead and enjoy the relationship without worries. Good luck.
