Q: Child turns 18 shortly,court order states i pay support on minor child and split secondary education,when does sup. stop
Child turns 18 in June after graduating high school. Court order says that i am to pay x amount of dollars on minor child(ren) and that my ex and I will split secondary education costs. There is no exact end date on the court agreement. Does the child support stop after the child is 18 and graduated High School and then I start paying my half on the secondary education?
A: Your best bet is to go back to your attorney a month or two before the child's 18th birthday and have them file a petition asking the court to set a specific cut-off date for the support. You may still be liable for the expense of secondary education, but you will have clearly established when the support checks stop.
