Oxnard, CA asked in Consumer Law for California

Q: I was told I was the primary on a car loan and my aunt was a co-signer. I just found out it was a lie.

I lost my job, had to relocate, got behind on two car payments, I can't afford to pay 700 a month anymore but since my aunt is the only one in the contract it's affecting her credit. I feel horrible! Is there anything I can do for her?

A: $700/month car payment? That's crazy. But, in response to your question, get a job and pay the debt. FYI, Your aunt's credit would be affected even if she was a co-signer. Both of you would be obligated to pay the debt.
