Q: If A person assaults another person and leaves a physical injury in the state of California and the police of that city

And the police of that city has been called to the scene.and the police leave and the person who did the assault is also left at the scene with the person who was assaulted what should happen next?

did the police think nothing happened and just gave warnings?

it would appear at first blush to be less than professional to leave two people who have had an argument alone as the argument and altercation could come up again.............in my opinion that was negligent of the police.
