Rancho Cucamonga, CA asked in Criminal Law and Traffic Tickets for California

Q: How do I ask to reduce my traffic ticket to a misdemeanor?

I was pulled over for no tags (but my registration paid) and I forgot that my license had expired. I received a ticket marked misdemeanor. I renewed my license the next business day. How do I ask the prosecution to reduce to an infraction? I’ve never received a ticket before and have been driving for 15 years.

A: as a rule, a traffic ticket is an infraction.......however some vehicle code violations are misdemeanors such as DUI, H&R, Driving without a license, Driving on a suspended.

it sounds like you were not cited for a traffic tix but rather a misdemeanor.

you should hire a lawyer or ask the court for a court-appointed lawyer.

it is like asking how do you operate on someone with a fracture....?

you seek a specialist.

A: Some infractions could be marked a misdemeanor. Misdemeanors could have jail time. For that reason alone, you need an attorney. Do you really want to chance it alone?
