Q: Why aren't public unions covered under the LMRDA?
A: I think the more important question is how long might labor unions continue to exist in the form we knew them to be?
A big part of society seems to be rebelling against laws and rules. Sort of like the "let those who ride decide" movement opposing motorcycle helmets years ago.
There are costs to laws and rules and to not having laws and rules.
When we make it an extreme challenge to fire someone we have to expect that creative managers and unions will figure out how to get rid of the unpopular or unliked. Those institutions are used by master manipulators and the unsuspecting and the naive who have failed to go above the required minimum will continue paying a price for such behavior.
There is no way to protect everyone. Making it too easy or not requiring some initiative beyond the minimum will encourage abuse of a system which had great intentions but evolved into one which the manipulative have used to profit at the expense of the majority.
The reset button will likely revamp it completely from the start instead of expand what many see as failed experiment. When we see universal healthcare for all is when we can expect unions to enjoy glory days again.
