Q: What happens at a Judge's Pre-Trial Hearing
A:
You must have a lawyer by now. You should discuss this with your lawyer.
Different judges conduct their hearings different ways
A: Typically a Pre-Trial Hearing is a Judge's way of checking on the status or progress of a case. I say "typically" because every judge is different and it is very important to know your judge. For some judges it may be the last court date before the case is set for trial. This may also be the last time to enter a negotiated plea. Contact a local attorney to see what it means for your judge.
A: A pre-trial is exactly what it sounds like, a court hearing done before setting a case for trial. This allows the Judge to keep tabs on his/her docket and gives the state/defense a chance to either work out a deal for a plea, set a motion or if needed, set the case for trial.
