Hemet, CA asked in Divorce for California

Q: My husband just beat me up, he just got bailed out, and I need a divorce. Is there lawyers who do pro bono work?

My husband and I are separated, he asked to speak with me, I went outside to talk to him we argued, he proceeded to upper cut me and tried to get me in the car, I jumped out fearing for my life he went after me, beat me to the floor than took off his belt and started whipping me with it. By the grace of God a Sheriff pulled up. He went to jail, got bailed out that night by his grandma. They are Native American and receive per-cap. And have a very expensive lawyer to defend his habitual bad behavior. He is a cage fighter and has a black belt in jujitsu. I really need a divorce but have no money. Is there a lawyer that takes these cases pro bono? I am receiving TANF so I have a little money from that, but he does not pay me any money.

A: You can reach out to legal aid centers or the bar association in your county to ask about pro bono services. You can also consult with the CA Courts website for self-help divorce forms: http://www.courts.ca.gov/formsrules.htm. More details are necessary to provide a professional analysis of your issue. The best first step is an Initial Consultation with an Attorney such as myself. You can read more about me, my credentials, awards, honors, testimonials, and media appearances/ publications on my law practice website, www.AliEsq.com. I practice law in CA, NY, MA, WA, and DC in the following areas of law: Business & Contracts, Criminal Defense, Divorce & Child Custody, and Education Law.
