Q: i recently got charged with a petty theft, I stole from the Goodwill in the amount of 57.99.

This is my first time ever being in trouble.Im 32 years old. Ive never had anything on my record but cant afford to hire a lawyer. Also, Goodwill did send me a settlement agreement in the mail to pay 200. What advice or help can you give please Im begging, I have no idea what to do. The crime happened in the county of Citrus

A: I will start by saying that stealing from Goodwill is an all-time low for me...Having said that, please remember that you can be provided a public defender, represent yourself, or retain a private attorney...If your assertion about your prior record is true, you may well be able to get a pre-trial diversion and avoid prosecution...don't wait until the last second.
