Asked in Consumer Law and Small Claims for Kentucky

Q: Can I sue my neighbor for his 20 cats using my yard as a litter box. And using my vehicle, deck and driveway as a bed.

I live in KY. He has at least 20 cats that continue to have more liters. I have asked him to keep his cats inside to limit the time they are outside but he doesn’t care. These cats use my yard as a litter box and I have seen worms in their feces which worries me that me or my dog May catch something. Also the fleas that are in my yard from his cats. My front door smells like cat urine all the time. I have called animal control but they say there is no animal control for cats because there are so many. So I don’t know what to do. Many of our neighbors are catching and releasing these cats but I have not. Perhaps a civil law suit will make him think about the amount of cats he has. I don’t know what to do and nobody seems to be any help.

A: I’d get animal control involved first and then sue later if the problem doesn’t resolve.
