Q: Am I required to purchase yacht by contract date if that date is during hurricane

Am set to transfer funds for yacht purchase 2 days before named storm is expected to arrive, is there provision in law allowing delay until after storm?

A: There is case law that allows for limited contract breach based on natural disasters. Most companies would be more than willing to make an amendment to the agreement to accommodate the circumstances. Try to compromise with them first before seeking counsel if you would like to save on attorney fees.

A: Listen to Mr. May, because he is 100% correct. Whoever the yacht dealer is they will be much happier to delay the contract than lose the sale. Caveat: Do NOT get in an argument with them--or threaten to breach and let them sue you, or whatever. Just tell them very matter-of-fact that you still intend to purchase the yacht--but since the storm showed up you would much rather them bear the risk attendant to the approaching storm than you--because they (no doubt) have millions of dollars coverage in their insurance contacts.
