Greenville, NC asked in Divorce for North Carolina

Q: What other options do I have to have my ex husband served the divorce papers if he does not pick up certified mail.

I filed for divorce 8/4/19, he did not collect the 1st copy I sent by certified mail. I sent a second copy 9/2/19. I do not want to miss the 90 day deadline to have a courtdate issued.

A: If he's not served within the first 90 days, you just have to issue a new summons, and have law enforcement try to serve him.

A: First, why are you bothering to do your own divorce? You could have an attorney do everything for you for a total of $395 and you wouldn't have to worry about stuff like this. Even if you are indigent and eligible to have court cost waived the $395 is a better deal than schlepping around trying to do it yourself. Second, if he isn't signing, why are you continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results? Just pony up the extra dough to serve him by sheriff and be done with it. Third, if you go beyond the 90 days (which is likely the least of your concerns doing it yourself), you can just have an A&P done for $15.
