A: If you have been defrauded by a contractor, you should contact the non-emergency law enforcement phone number and file a police report and/or contact the county attorney's office to report the crime. They will likely want supporting documentation of the fraud, so you will want to provide a copy of the check, contract with the contractor, photos of the property, etc to law enforcement and/or the county attorney's office. Often contractors that defraud do so to multiple people and when multiple victims report the crime, it gives more evidence for the county attorney to use to support the case to prosecutor the contractor for the fraud.
