Chillicothe, OH asked in Civil Rights, Real Estate Law and Land Use & Zoning for Ohio

Q: Help with understanding how this is fair? It seems like it should be illegal .

While trying to install a sewage system my town lost money on two occasions by hiring companies that didn't finish the job. So to make up for this loss they force you to hook up to their sewage , charge a seemingly large amount every month for doing so, and if you get behind disconnect you, add a 500 dollar penalty on top of your bill and give you 30 days to have it paid. If within your 30 days you aren't able to they start proceedings to take your home. Is this right? Legal? It just doesn't seem like they should be able to do this. Especially not when you have a perfectly good septic system in place already.

A: Public sewer issues are usually handled locally. Use the Find a Lawyer tab to retain a local attorney who can review local ordinances and advise you.
