A: You never know. The Sheriff's Office typically has deputies present in the courthouse, and of course there are often police officers there for court. While you might walk in, drop off the motion, and not identify yourself as the defendant (the person filing a motion is not necessarily the person named as the defendant), then unless you are notoriously known to people in the courthouse, then you may certainly get away with it. But why take that chance at all, and why risk filing your own motion without a lawyer? Are you sure your reasons are so compelling as to why you failed to appear for your court date that a judge would grant it? Lawyers know what language and arguments work best in these situations, depending on your reasons, and also know that merely by entering their appearance on your behalf it will show the court that you are serious about showing up for trial. Plus, the lawyer will generally be relied upon to make sure their client appears at all future court dates. Having a lawyer represent you can sometimes be the difference in the judge's mind when deciding whether to recall the warrant.
