Q: I was sitting at a red light and my foot slipped off the brake pedal, in doing so i bumped the car in front of me.

The police officer gave me a ticket for following too closly. Is that possible sitting at a red light?

A: The short answer is yes. Even though the other car wasn't moving, so technically your weren't "following" it, anytime you hit another vehicle in the rear end you generally will be cited for following too closely.

A: You can plead not guilty but you could also be charged for failure to have your car under control--and from what you say it was not. Plead not guilty, see if the officer will agree to change the charge. You are still responsible for any damages.
