Lombard, IL asked in Criminal Law, Civil Rights and Constitutional Law for Illinois

Q: Hey so my friend and I agreed to have a friendly boxing spar we have no hate towards each other and can we box at park?

We wanted to box at a local park and can we get in trouble from this and also we are using this for content also but mainly for a friendly boxing spar at the park can we get in trouble?

A: I have never seen anyone ask for legal advice for a friendly spar. No lawyer would advise you to engage this behavior since we all know how things could escalate. Not to mention that is clearly against all covid guidelines. If your question has to do with parks and covid, that is controlled locally.

A: Yes, you could be arrested for, at the very least, Disorderly Conduct, which is a Misdemeanor offense. If you and your friend really want to box, you should do it through a boxing sanctioned event.

A: I wouldn't do it.

Whoever gets the worst of it can claim something else happened to the police.

First of all, wait until this Coronavirus crisis is over.

Second, go to a Boxing gym where there's a referee who can not only be an arbiter about what's fair, but also to look out for your personal safety as well as his.

Boxing can be an interesting sport. It can also be dangerous.
