Victorville, CA asked in Family Law, Child Custody, Child Support and Domestic Violence for California

Q: Should I keep trying to find a decent lawyer, or give up and represent myself?

I recently filed a restraining order against my now ex for domestic violence and our court date is coming quickly. I've been scouring for what feels like ages looking for representation and coming up short. I have footage from our security cameras of the recent abuse (cops took a clip of the worst of it when they showed up and called medics), photos of the injuries from over a year ago, and about a million screenshots of infidelity and abuse and such spanning nearly 8 years. People keep saying I'll be better off facing him myself in court, but we have toddlers and it's all overwhelming. Not to mention I'd love to never see his face again. San Bernardino County just seems full of...not so great lawyers for victims? But I definitely don't have the funds to hire out of LA, and that's where friends/family keep referring me. Any and all advice are greatly appreciated!

A: Try Riverside county too, there are a lot of good practitioners there. It is better if you have an attorney to speak for you, because you will be emotionally invested in the proceeding and may not make the best impression on the judge. The attorney will help you to organize the presentation so that it will go smoothly in court for you.

A: more info needed.

there are plenty of good lawyers in every county...if you can afford them.

however, isn't the DA representing your interests if this is criminal?

google criminal/family lawyers in the area where the courthouse is located.
