Los Angeles, CA asked in Criminal Law for California

Q: What actions can I take on a situation of this fraud activity?

I sold a pair of sneakers last night at a Chevron gas station. Everything went smooth, but my phone happened to die. I take payment through the mobile app “Zelle” and in front of me, he sent the payment of $270. I left the gas station believing that the money had been sent and he also said to let him know if anything went wrong. I got home, charged my phone, and no confirmation of $270 being sent was found. After several messages of reaching out from different phone numbers, the buyer has still not reached back. I have the buyer’s first and last name, phone number and general location of residence. What actions can I take to safely get my $270 dollars back from this man who is avoiding my texts?

A: Call the cops but they may tell you that it is a "civil matter" and cannot help you. Small claim court is another option but it is a bunch of work for $270!

Good luck!

A: more info needed.

were you just standing around and someone wanted to buy YOUR shoes?

this is civil and not criminal so I suspect the police will not get involved.

you can consider small claims but it is a lot of aggravation for so little money.

you may chalk this up to experience...............
