A: Ship chandler is a term that's used more loosely than traditional seagoing slots for which licensing credentialing is clear, such as second engineer for first officer. If the employer has any kind of requirement to maintain merchant marine credentialing, information on seagoing credentialing can be found in the U.S. Coast Guard's National Maritime Center - (https://www.dco.uscg.mil/nmc/merchant_mariner_credential/). If the prospective employer has specific licensing or certification requirements for the position that they could outline for you, knowing those could save you time in directing your searches. Good luck
