A: Sure you can--you can sue anyone for anything. That said, if your suit is without merit then you could be sanctioned with fines for filing a suit without merit. If you file suit which is with merit, and you are unable to prove your case then you will not recover and you would be out your filing fees (and attorney's fees, if any). Defamation is a difficult theory to legally prove and sometimes quite stingy on recoverable damages----I would contact a lawyer in your area to discuss the specifics of your case and the pros and cons on how to proceed.
