Livonia, MI asked in Landlord - Tenant for Michigan

Q: If someone moves into your house(with you occupying it) after asking to live there and not receiving an answer

In any way did she receive an answer from either of us. And had been kicked out a total of 4 times after being told each time after the original “move in” had happened that she could not live here. Had never helped pay for anything at all including the phone that was prior to her so called move in already on one of our phone plans. No electric, no internet, not even food. After the last time she was kicked out she left her non drivable vehicle as well as her camper and some other belongings here. Is it illegal for me to hold onto those things until she pays at least the $1000+ phone bill that she owes? Plus money she owes that she borrowed and said she would pay back once her taxes came in which she has already gotten back but has not paid or even attempted to pay anything towards what she owes but wants her belongings.

A: You're in a quasi-legal jam. I'm not sure how someone moves in four times uninvited; you may have a tenancy issue and find that you need to formally evict this person. She could file a claim and delivery action for her stuff. Will she do that, who knows. Likewise, I'm not sure how you're going to get money from her.
