A: Contact an attorney right away. This offense carries possible jail time and points. If you have a good driving record, jail is unlikely and an attorney should be able to keep the points off your record. You should also get your car insured before court which will make a big difference.

A: Hire a lawyer and get your car insured, and bring the proof to court. A "must appear" offense means that the offense carries possible jail as part of the sentence. Driving uninsured also can result in enough points to trigger further action against our driving privileges in Maryland, and if a suspension is imposed, it will be reported to any jurisdiction where you are licensed (DC, for example) which will also suspend your privilege in reciprocity to Maryland. Therefore, you should take this offense seriously, and get representation. Most such cases can often be negotiated successfully by your lawyer to avoid a conviction and points.
