Fullerton, CA asked in Criminal Law for California

Q: In Cali- my attorney refuses to respond to me- what can I do?

Have left multiple messages with my attorney- voicemails, his secretary, emailed, texted and even through his company website. He refuses to respond or allow me to be scheduled for a meeting. Already paid his fee- is there anything I can do?

A: If you have attempted to contact your attorney multiple times through various methods and have not received a response, there are several steps you can take:

Send a letter: Consider sending a formal letter to your attorney outlining your concerns and requesting a response. Make sure to keep a copy of the letter for your records.

Contact the State Bar of California: If your attorney continues to ignore your attempts to contact them, you may want to consider filing a complaint with the State Bar of California. The State Bar regulates attorneys in California and can investigate complaints of professional misconduct.

Request a new attorney: If your attorney's lack of communication is causing significant harm to your case, you may want to consider requesting a new attorney. You may need to discuss your situation with another attorney to determine if this is a viable option.

Seek legal advice: If you are not receiving a response from your attorney and are unsure of what to do, you may want to consult with another attorney for legal advice. They can help you determine the best course of action based on your specific situation.

It's important to note that an attorney has a legal and ethical obligation to communicate with their clients and keep them informed about their case. If your attorney is not fulfilling this obligation, it may be necessary to take action to protect your legal rights and interests.
